Another week has passed by during my time in ISM
This week it felt like I was just checking items off a checklist and some award was needed to be accomplish. My week started off by contacting my partner about our progress regarding the final product website platform. Now we are inserting information and editing as we go. Our goal is to complete the quizzes by the end of the week. Her due date is May 7, and I hope to have the entirety of the project completed to my expectation by then. Moreover, my mentor went over my portfolio and was extremely impressed by the work I’ve completed. He said there was a great amount of in-depth passion and analysis of the study of public health regarding with current event topics. He made sure to praise my work and I feel very proud of the work I have done in ISM. This week I will be rehearsing my final presentation night speech I am excited to finally share all of my hard work during my time in ISM. It continues to amaze me how close to the end of the year that we are in; I am so excited to finish my days of high school Even though I have only spent one year in ISM, I feel that I have grown so much in comparison to the person I was last year. The professionalism, experience, and research that I have obtain gained during this course will surely guide me throughout my lifetime. I appreciate the hard work of my mentor, my teacher, and also a pat on the back to myself for caring on during the hardest times within the course

Another week has passed in my ISM journey. This week was very uneventful; I was not stressed, I was not bored, and I was not challenged. Instead, it was just a passing week. I did what I had to do, and it was successfully completed. Thankfully there was not many assignments due in the past week, my reasoning being that last week was the end of the fifth six weeks. If there were many assignments, I would have not been able to put 100% effort into my work.
Moreover, this week I was able to attend a mentors visit with Dr. Richardson. Dr. Richardson allowed me to sit in at one of his accreditation meetings discussing different items in public health readiness for the county. Dr. Richardson and his team very calm and welcoming in their environments. I was astonished it in such a serious meeting to be welcomed with open arms and warmth. The most fun part of the meeting was (you’ll never guess it)... Jeopardy! Dr. Richardson and his team reviewed the meeting materials in a game of Jeopardy. Never in a million years I would think that a government facility, staff, establishment would use jeopardy as their way to review. It was so much fun and engaging; I thoroughly enjoyed my time at my mentor visit in the past week! For my final product, my partner due date is creeping up on us closely. Sadly, we are kind of lagging behind on implanting the information into the website. I will be sure to contact her to further discuss the works and future progress. Overall, I hope this week goes smoothly as I prepare for both my ISM final presentation night speech, AP exams, and my final product. It has been another exhilarating week of ISM
Last week, I was able to meet with my mentor, Dr. Matt Richardson. We were not able to meet for long, but in the beginning of our visit we quickly went over the mentor handbook. Even though I was not able to meet with my mentor for the entire duration of the visit, he let me speak with Denton County Public Information Officer, Jennifer Rainey. Through our mini-visit, I was able to learn more about how to properly word and address “hot topics”. I appreciate with the time and knowledge she spared for me. I would be sure to implement information into my final product. Moreover, my main goal this week is to communicate with my partner about our final product. Her due date is closely approaching, but little to action is being done to further progress our product. My only challenge this week is that I am very busy with work and AP test preparation. I am not struggling with time management, it is just that there is little to no time to make for discussion. However, I have to persist and make the time to ensure the uttermost best quality of our project. Another week has passed in ISM.
This week was not very exciting, instead I was just doing work to fill upcoming deadlines for my final product. I communicated with my partner, and we have finally gotten the last of our outlines completed. Our information will be discussed sometime this week regarding what needs to be placed in the website and what needs to be completed before the due date. I may have to ask for an extension for my partner, because her final product is due before mine. However, there is only an eight day difference between our two dates for final product so I do not know yet if the extension is necessary. Besides the usual final product work grind, I was not able to conduct a mentor visit in the past week due to the unavailability of my mentor. This week, however, he has communicated that he is available for a mentor visit this week. Hopefully, I get some on-site action field of public and government. As I come to the last seven weeks of my high school career, I am very hopeful that I will use the skills that I acquired in my higher education and professional career! I am very excited to start my life after ISM! In ISM, it has been another productive week
This week was mostly focused on my final product. I went through the calendar and completed the STI and safe sex research outline, along with my partner working on the sexual identities and sexualities outline. My main priority this week is to focus on communicating with my mentor and partner for my final project. Recently, I have contacted my mentor and he has not acknowledged any of my messages. Therefore, I will be reaching out to him again along the lines of when we conduct our next visit. Secondly, I will be contacting my partner on what needs to be accomplished this week, along with proper communication in our product and its process. I am not worried about these issues of communication with my mentor and my partner; I feel like that I can get them cleared without any hassle. Moreover, I am pleased with the progress of my product. I am still very much interested and passionate about the public health. I am proud to say that I’ve been accepted into the University of Houston Public Health program; the skills that I have learned through ISM will be applied to my higher education and beyond into my career as a doctor. This week has been an another exhilarating week in ISM.
After returning from spring break, I went back to working on my final product. Both the female and male developmental reproductive and sexual anatomy (including puberty) has been completed, along with my product progress log. Here, I was able to expand on my curriculum and further research the biological anatomy for men and women. Despite my accomplishments, I need to communicate with my partner, Axum Taylor, about the layout of the research outline and website outline. I would like for the research outline to be complete before any insertion of information onto the website. Moreover, I finally conducted my first mentor visit! THis week I wean to Denton County Commissioner Court. While the process of legal court may not seem relevant to Public Health, Commissioner court deals with budgets. The courts approves, declines, or ask for the revisions of budget by the asking party. Denton County was approved for finance of Tuberculosis SCreenings and vaccination and preparation for the next flu season. During commissioners court, my mentor delivered a presentation of Denton County rankings in comparison to the state of Texas. Denton County ranked No.1 for health factors and No.6 for health wellness; Our country is above national rankings in both health factors and wellness! One other thing that I observers from my mentors presentation is his delivery. In ISM, we are instructed to have both a serious and professional presentation delivery, as a result not leaving much room for our unique personalities. My mentor, Dr. Richardson, was professional and serious during his presentation, but he was also very relaxed and humorous. With this noted, I will try to implement such characteristics into my Final Presentation Night speech. This week has been an another exhilarating week in ISM. I have decided to completely change my final product. At first, I was working solo and planning to do a seminar focusing on how parents can better communicate sexual education to their adolescents, however, now I have decided to partner up with another ISM public health student from Liberty, Axum Taylor. Last week I mentioned working with another ISM public health student, but we were not completely sure of our idea yet. We knew that we wanted to have a collective final product , therefore, this week was really focus on communicating what we need to do and what we can accomplish. As a result, we have decided to create a website over a collaborative, cumulative research on self-taught sexual education for students ranging from the primary and secondary level. Moreover, I am excited to hear today that my mentor has been approved, and now I can start official visits! I have some interest in working in health related government, however, in comparison to my knowledge in becoming a doctor, I lack knowledge on how to become a public health official. To cope with the lack of information, I will start I will communicate with my mentor and schedule a visit as soon as possible so I can start my new adventure of learning how public health works into government. This week of ISM, I feel accomplished.
All year I have been struggling with time management, but this week I am on top of both my school work and ISM. I do not know if it had to do with the three day weekend, or the mini-break Mr. Spiece gave to the ISM student, but I am basking in its positive effects. Moreover, I have sent the information for a mentor, and he plans to start working on it soon. I am so excited to be shadowing and learning more about the field of public health. Recently, I have had a shift in interest in medicine to government. Therefore, in my first visit, I plan to get more information about a government-related career in public health. In regards to my final product, I have decided to partner up with another fellow public health ISM student from Liberty. We are still trying to finalize our ideas, but we are pretty certain on creating some sort of tool focusing on sexual education. Soon we will type up our proposal, get it approved, and then go over it with our mentors! I am excited for the week ahead, and I hope continue this streak of proper time management continues! |
